What a giveaway picker actually does

When a promotion says “comment to enter”, what you end up with is a list nobody can audit by hand. An average post gathers a few hundred comments; one that travels clears a thousand. Inside that list sit people who commented thirty times, people who forgot the hashtag, bot accounts, and entries that landed after the deadline.

This picker does three things with that mess. It reads every public comment on the post, discards anyone who did not meet the rule you set yourself, and draws a winner from what remains using the browser's cryptographic random number generator. What you get back is the handle, the exact comment and the date, ready to publish.

It works the same for a small shop, a brand collaboration, an account anniversary or an agency campaign. The size of the post changes; the process does not. Pasting the link stays the only required step.

How to pick an Instagram giveaway winner in 4 steps

From pasted link to winner on screen usually takes under a minute, even on a large post. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to download.

1

Copy the post link

On the giveaway post, tap the three dots and choose copy link. Post, Reel and carousel URLs all work, as long as the account that published it is public.

2

Bring the comments over

Paste the link and choose how many comments to pull. The screen shows them landing live, so you can watch the entry count climb instead of staring at a spinner.

3

Turn your rule into a filter

Required a hashtag? Switch the hashtag filter on. Asked people to tag a friend? Raise the minimum mentions. The counter shows how many entrants survive each adjustment.

4

Run the draw

The result opens with the profile picture, handle, comment and date. Need a backup winner? Draw again without reloading anything, as many times as you like.

The filters that decide who is in the draw

Every rule you wrote in the caption has an equivalent here. All of them open on the free tier, with no exceptions.

Required hashtag

Only entrants who wrote your campaign hashtag stay in. Demand the exact tag or accept variants.

Minimum tags

Require one, two or more @ mentions per comment, exactly as your caption asked for.

One entry per account

Someone who commented thirty times counts once, and someone who commented once keeps their odds.

Duplicate text removed

Identical comments pasted in bulk drop out, which is how most giveaway spam arrives.

Blocked accounts

List the handles that cannot win: your team, business accounts, suspicious profiles, past winners.

Keyword and length

Require a specific word or discard comments too short to be real, the emoji-only kind.

Filters stack: requiring a hashtag and a tag at once means the comment has to satisfy both. See how duplicate comments are handled.

How many comments it loads

The free tier takes the 300 most recent comments on a post. For most accounts that is the entire thread and the question ends there. Past that, the screen tells you how many entrants fell outside the cut — which is precisely the warning missing from most free tools, where the truncation happens quietly.

When a post takes off, the picker walks it from the first comment to the last with no technical ceiling: a thousand, five thousand, whatever is there. See how the comment picker reads a full thread or check plans and pricing.

How to prove to your audience the draw was fair

Complaints about a giveaway are almost never about who won. They are about not being able to check. Scrolling the comment list and stopping your thumb feels random, but it favours early commenters, short handles and people you already recognise. If your audience suspects that, the next promotion draws fewer entries.

Three things fix it. Write the complete rule in the caption before publishing: how many entries per account, the deadline with a time, and what disqualifies. Use a real draw — the result here comes from crypto.getRandomValues(), the same generator encryption software uses, with no weighting and no arrival order. And show the process: record the screen or screenshot the card with the handle, comment and date.

Before announcing, open the drawn profile. No picture, no posts and digits at the end of the handle usually means a bot — use the blocked-accounts field and draw again, provided that policy was already in the caption from the start.
